Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and Métis Nation–Saskatchewan Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Today, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA) and the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN-S) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together and address Métis people‘s experiences with cancer.

Senior leaders from the SCA and MN–S signed a formal agreement establishing a framework in which the two partners will create a Métis-specific cancer strategy. This framework addresses health equity in Saskatchewan and will form an important part of the MN-S overall health and well-being strategy.

“Today, we are formalizing a relationship that has been years in the making through our collaboration on cancer surveillance, cancer prevention activities and community consultations,” said Dr. Jon Tonita, President and CEO of the SCA. “The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency is committed to moving forward with the Métis Nation to identify, understand and address the barriers that contribute to health inequities for Métis people in this province.”

“This memorandum is an expression of our joint commitment to improve the lived experiences with cancer for Métis people in Saskatchewan,” said MN–S Health Minister Marg Friesen. “We will continue to work closely with the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, with the intention to implement diverse and targeted cancer programs and services for the people we serve”
