Accreditation
Accreditation Canada
Is an organization who delivers high-impact assessment programs for health and social service organizations, such as the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, which is powered by Health Standards Organizations (HS0).
HSO is a Standard Development Organization (SDO) by the Standards Council of Canada, imposing a rigorous and public process in developing evidence-based health and social service standards.
What is an Accreditation Canada Assessment?
Accreditation is an ongoing process of assessing health care and social services organizations against standards of excellence to identify what is being done well and what needs to be improved. This includes participating in an external on-site survey every four years by national experts from Accreditation Canada. The combined results of our internal self-assessment and on-site survey help us to identify where we are doing well and where we can improve.
Why do we do it?
Accreditation is important because it helps created better health care for you, your family and your community. It enables us to understand how to make better use of our resources, reduce risk and enhance quality, and safety for everyone.
Who takes part in it?
All Cancer Agency staff (clinical, non-clinical, leadership), patients, Patient Family Advisory Council, the Cancer Agency Board of Directors and community partners.
Who leads it within the Cancer Agency?
Cancer Agency staff in the Quality, Safety & Strategy department are the primary contacts between Accreditation Canada and the Cancer Agency. They coordinate accreditation activities with the Cancer Agency to ensure we have completed all the requirements, including survey logistics and follow-up recommendations from the onsite survey.
What does it mean for patients and people of Saskatchewan?
When you see the Accreditation Canada seal, you can be sure that we are working hard to meet the Accreditation Canada
standards to deliver safe, high-quality care. The Cancer Agency does so because better quality means better health.
Surveyors engage directly with patients to ensure their perspective of their cancer journey, and their experience with the quality and safety of care they receive from the Cancer Agency is reflected in the Accreditation survey.
In 2022, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency was awarded "Accredited with Exemplary Standing" by Accreditation Canada.
This is the highest standing awarded to an organization by Accreditation Canada.
