Ways to Prevent the Infections and Illnesses
At the Cancer Agency, a big part of our safety standards, is preventing infections. There are some simple and easy infection prevention practices that you, your family and friends can practice along with your health care team.
Masking is now OPTIONAL, but recommended, for all patients, visitors and staff in our cancer clinics and patient lodges in Regina and Saskatoon.
The SCA monitors respiratory virus cases in community and has concluded that the current risk to patients is low. We are confident that patients will remain safe in our facilities with everyone following standard infection prevention and control practices, such as washing or sanitizing hands frequently and wearing a mask, as needed for patient safety.
- Patients and their support persons can continue to wear masks in our facilities.
- Patients are welcome to ask their health care team to wear masks. Our providers will be happy to oblige.
- Masks will continue to be provided at the entrances of all SCA sites.
Good infection control practices are:
- Hand hygiene- perform hand hygiene (washing hands with soap and water or alcolhol-based hand sanitizer) frequently.
- Ask your healthcare team to clean their hands.
- Cover your move when you cough and your nose when you sneeze using the croock of your elbow.
- Wipe down high tough surfaces regularly (i.e. door handles, light switches, counter and table tops, etc.).
- Stay home when sick.
Hand hygiene is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infections!
