Cancer Patient Lodges

A home away from home

The Regina and Saskatoon Cancer Patient Lodges concept began in late 1978. Construction was financed through fundraising from the Canadian Cancer Society, who gifted the lodges to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.

The idea of the lodges was conceptualized for patients who travel to the city from distant rural locations for treatment at the cancer clinics.

The Cancer Patient lodges allow those getting treatment to have affordable lodging close to the cancer centers.

Lodges & their Staff:

Each lodge has a manager who oversees the day-to-day operations of the facility, working together with the Allan Blair and Saskatoon Cancer Centre teams to assist guests in their cancer journey.

Both facilities employ Lodge Attendants who work tirelessly to keep the lodges pristine.  The lodge attendants assist with kitchen responsibilities alongside the journeyman cook (Regina Location), perform laundry and linen duty, clean/sanitize all areas of the facility as well as establishing rapport with guests and their companions.

The Regina Cancer Patient Lodge has a full-time journeyman cook who provides the guests with delicious home cooked meals.  Guests who require special dietary needs can be accommodated.

Both lodges employ 10 staff each.

Impact

The lodges ensure people feel safe and comfortable.  Guests appreciate settling into a familiar environment, surrounded by friendly and compassionate staff.  The lodges also offer a sense of community for those who stay.  Lasting friendships are often established as patients provide one another support in a community setting.
