BreastCheck provides important and potentially life-saving screening mammograms to Saskatchewan women who:
- Are 43 years of age or older;
- Do not have symptoms of breast cancer such as lumps, bloody nipple discharge or skin change;
- Do not have breast implants;
- Are not on active followup for breast cancer; and
- Have been breast cancer-free for five years.
Women who are not eligible to be screened at BreastCheck should discuss their individual needs with their health-care provider.
Trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people may also need regular mammograms. Eligibility depends on anatomy, hormone use and risk factors, not gender identity alone. To learn more, please visit the Canadian Cancer Society’s Screening in 2SLGBTQI+ communities page.
Why are screening mammograms important?
A mammogram is a low-dose X-ray of breast tissue. With regular screening mammograms, changes in the breast can be detected even when they are too small for you or your health-care provider to feel or see.
Approximately 75 per cent of breast cancers diagnosed through BreastCheck are early stage.
Early detection allows for more treatment options and better outcomes.
Where to go for a mammogram
BreastCheck operates two permanent screening centres in Regina and Saskatoon, as well as satellite centres in Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford, Prince Albert, and Lloydminster. Additionally, a Mobile Mammography Unit travels throughout rural and northern Saskatchewan. You can book an appointment for a screening mammogram at any of these locations.
You do not need a health-care provider’s referral to book a BreastCheck mammogram.
