Resumption of Cancer Screening Programs

With Saskatchewan Health Authority resuming some services, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency is positioned to restart programs affected by SHA closures. The Screening Program for Breast Cancer is aiming to gradually start screening mammograms again in June, beginning with clients who had previous appointments cancelled as a result of COVID-19 precautions. The SCA cares about the safety and well being of our screening program clients. Precautionary measures will be in place to minimize the risk of contracting or spreading the COVID-19 in SCA facilities.

The Screening Program for Cervical Cancer will start to send out reminder letters again in June. Eligible Saskatchewan residents can follow the normal process for booking an appointment for a Pap test with a healthcare provider.

The Screening Program for Colorectal Cancer will also resume sending out FIT kits in small numbers in the next few weeks. As endoscopy units resume colonoscopy, those patients who were canceled will be rescheduled.

If you receive a FIT kit in the mail, you can now complete your kit and send it in to be analyzed. If you already have a FIT kit that you previously received in the mail, wait to complete your kit until you have received a reminder letter from the program asking you to do so.

If you have any questions, please call the Screening Program for Colorectal Cancer toll-free at 1-855-292-2202.
